My origional, expanded review of this book is on PsychCentral.
A husband/wife team, Marcie and Daniel Yeager, both therapists, wrote this book.
The gist of the book is this. Executive function can be broken up into 3 to 36 different pieces (or probably more). The Yeagers break it into four categories.
- Working memory
- The ability to shift focus
- Inhibition
- Creating and carrying out the steps necessary to complete a goal
This book would be most helpful for parents of kids with ADHD, Tourette's, and some forms of autism. However, I found it useful for working with my kids, and except for dyslexia, they're pretty much fine.
What makes the book useful is specfici pieces of advice for specific issues.
